Hypnosis — Practitioner Statement

“Ericksonian Hypnotherapy is a technique from the realm of mind-body therapies, which can be very useful in the medical setting. Although historically it is related to classical hypnosis (the type with which most people are familiar with as ”stage hypnosis“), it is in practice much less authoritarian and relies on more gentler suggestion. Patients learn how to use the deep relaxation state evoked by the hypnotherapist for a variety of purposes, including pain control, behavior change in areas such as smoking cessation or weight control, irritable bowel syndrome, and a number of other stress related conditions. Patients typically learn a form of self-hypnosis which they can practice on their own to sustain the gains they make in the office with the practitioner. The underlying principle of hypnotherapy is that the unconscious mind has a very powerful healing potential, and each of us can learn how to use that potential for whatever is troubling us.”
