Mary Beth Augustine, RD, CDN
Mary Beth Augustine began her informal study of nutrition in integrative medicine (back when it was called
complementary/alternative medicine) as a patient in 1989 when she was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Disease.
A career change- inspired by her cancer diagnosis- led Mary Beth to become a Registered Dietitian and NY State
Certified Nutritionist. She graduated with highest honors from Marymount College in Tarrytown NY and completed
a clinical internship at the Medical Center at the University of California at San Francisco. Mary Beth has
worked in research at the American Health Foundation in Valhalla, NY, pediatric home health care, geriatric and
acute care, oncology nutrition at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center's Integrative Medicine Center in NY,
and in holistic nutrition in private practice at The Natural Nutritionist in Brewster, NY. Mary Beth is a
sought-after lecturer for both public and health professional audiences, speaking on diverse topics including
plant-based diets, health benefits of Asian diets, nutrition and Women's Health, medicinal properties of
culinary spices and herbs, and complementary care and the cancer patient. Professional affiliations include
The American Dietetic Association, The Oncology Nutrition Dietetic Practice Group, The Nutrition in
Complementary Care Dietetic Practice Group, and the Nutrition Entrepreneurs Dietetic Practice Group. Mary Beth
has been featured on CBS News, ABC News, Fox 5 News, Today in New York, CNN Market Watch, Discovery Health TV,
National Public Radio, and has been interviewed as a food and nutrition expert in many print media publications.
Though it was Hippocrates who said it first, "Let thy food be thy medicine, and thy medicine be thy food", Mary
Beth heartily agrees. She is surviving cancer everyday. She considers a plant based-diet with emphasis on
medicinal foods, flowers, herbs and teas, and the integration of body-mind-spirit to be critical to disease
prevention, treatment, and survival.
